Service Updates & Upcoming Public Holidays – w/c 12th October

Service Updates

GENERAL: The situation at Calais and the Channel Tunnel have improved and over the last week transport services have been returning to normal. However, there is a possibility that further strike action and/or security issues may cause further delays going forward. We will advise accordingly if and when new events arise.  Resolved (issue start date: 23/06/15 – updated 17/08/15)

There are delays again at the Eurotunnel. Delays are expected on the crossing from France to UK, which would have a knock-on effect on the availability of outward bound transports and drivers. Inbound delays from France were up to 10 hours over the weekend. Ongoing (issue start date: 21/09/15)

Australia – It has been reported by The Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection that a number of strike days are due to take place in several airports across Australia between 21st – 30th of September.  It is possible that this strike action may have an effect on mail delivery services over the next few days. Resolved (issue start date: 21/09/15)

Belgium – Due to national demonstration on Wednesday, 7th October. Unions are planning action on access roads to both passenger and cargo sides to Belgium & Liege airports. There will delays in the pick up and drop off of mail from these airports. Ongoing (issue start date: 07/10/15)

Chile – On Wednesday 16th September an earthquake hit central Chile. This resulted in evacuations from homes and businesses in some coastal areas. At present it is unknown what effect if any this will have on mail services to and from Chile. Resolved (issue start date: 16/09/15)

China – High volumes of mail arriving in Shanghai and Guangzhou are resulting in backlogs and capacity issues for China Post. Delays to mail services are likely. Ongoing (issue start date: 03/11/14)

Finland – Due to a national strike that took place on 18th September in Finland, all mail services will be affected and there is an expected backlog of mail to clear which will resume by Tuesday 22nd September. Resolved (issue start date: 18/09/15)

France – Due to strike action at Calais, there are delays in line-haul coming into the UK. There are anticipated delays of 5-6 hours which will cause a small delay on inbound UK Mail. Ongoing (issue start date: 14/10/15)

France – Unionised Air France workers have announced a nationwide strike. The extent of participation is still unclear. Delays to mail processing and delivery is to be expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 05/10/15)

France – Following a storm in the Mediterranean Region of France and particularly the west of the Maritime Alps there is currently no road access to the area. This has resulted in delays mail delivery services. Ongoing (issue start date: 09/10/15)

Germany – Deutsche Post have advised that they will not be delivering letters on Mondays for the next 5 weeks. Please expect delays in mail traffic during this time. Newspapers and other magazines however will be delivered as normal. Resolved (issue start date: 13/08/15)

Ireland – An Post, the designated postal operator of post to Ireland has informed us that because of industrial action of staff in mail processing centres, they will be unable to process and mail until further notice. We will update you of the situation as it develops. Resolved (issue start date: 05/10/15)

Italy – Due to heave rain in northern Italy, the following areas have been affected by landslides. Emilia-Romagna province of Piacenza, Liguria region and its port city of Genoa and the Veneto region. Disruptions and delays in mail processing and delivery expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 21/09/15)

Italy – Italian airport workers are due to go on strike Thursday 8th October from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Flight delays and cancellations are expected which may effect the transit of mail to Italy. Ongoing (issue start date: 08/10/15)

Libya – All mail services to Libya are currently suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 16/07/14)

Nepal – An earthquake, approximately 50 miles north west of Kathmandu, has caused severe damage in northern Nepal. Severe disruption to mail services nationwide is to be expected.

UPDATE: All mail services in Nepal have been officially suspended and Kathmandu Airport is now closed to all commercial cargo due to the humanitarian relief effort in the region. Ongoing (issue start date: 27/04/15 – updated 30/04/15)

Sardinia – Due to heavy rainfall and flooding, there have been a number of road closures. Delays to mail services are to be expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 02/10/15)

Somalia – All mail services to Libya are currently suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 30/11/91)

Spain – Spanish air traffic controllers announced to go on strike from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flight cancellations and delays possible. Resolved (issue start date: 26/09/15)

Ukraine – Delivery of mail for the Crimea and Sevastopol (postal codes 95000 – 99999) regions remains suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 18/03/14)

USA – Approximately 450 flights have been grounded in the USA due to a technical glitch. This may have an impact on postal deliveries. Ongoing (issue start date: 11/10/15)

Tunisia – Tunis-Carthage International Airport is closed due to repair works. Delays to mail is to be expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 14/10/15)

Turkey – Following the terrorist attack in Ankara on Saturday morning, several unions in Turkey have announced a 2 day strike from October 12th. All political parties, workers and trade organisations will join the strike. Delays to mail delivery are expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 12/10/15)

Yemen – All mail services to Yemen have now been suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 27/03/15)
