Service Updates & Upcoming Public Holidays – w/c 18th January

UK Service Updates

Scotland (postcodes KY14-KY15) – Royal Mail have been advised by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) that staff at the Cupar Delivery Office intend to take industrial action on Monday 18th January. Royal Mail have stated that they will make every effort to keep services as normal as possible throughout the area and the Cupar enquiry office will remain open to allow customers to collect items, which we have previously attempted to deliver. Ongoing (issue start date: 18/01/16)

International Service Updates

GENERAL: The situation at Calais and the Channel Tunnel have improved and over the last week transport services have been returning to normal. However, there is a possibility that further strike action and/or security issues may cause further delays going forward. We will advise accordingly if and when new events arise.

Delays are still expected on the crossing from France to UK, which would have a knock on effect on the availability of outward bound transport. There is no end date for this as the situation is continuing indefinitely. Ongoing (issue start date: 23/06/15 – updated 10/12/15)

Australia – A bushfire at Crib Point in the Mornington Peninsula region of Victoria has caused isolated impacts to mail delivery services. Ongoing (issue start date: 19/01/16)

Brazil – There is a customs strike taking place causing a work stoppage of two days. Work is expected to resume on Friday 22nd January. Delays to parcel delivery is to be expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 20/01/16)

Channel Islands – Due to bad weather in the English channel, there are delays to services to the Channel islands. This will also have an impact on deliveries from the Islands to mainland UK. Ongoing (issue start date: 04/01/16)

China – Due to heavy smog in Beijing leading to widespread traffic restrictions about half the cars in Beijing will be banned from the Road. The delivery of mail will be affected. Ongoing (issue start date: 08/11/14)

China – High volumes of mail arriving in Shanghai and Guangzhou are resulting in backlogs and capacity issues for China Post. Delays to mail services are likely. Ongoing (issue start date: 19/01/16)

Egypt – Due to the suspension of flights from the UK to Egypt, delays to mail is to be expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 04/11/15)

France – There are delays to mail expected due to industrial action at the Neuilly sur Seine distribution centre PDC1 (92200) and the Rouen Madrillet (76600) distribution centre. Ongoing (issue start date: 11/01/16)

Greece – Due to a strike of farmers, roadblocks are planned along the transport axis Athens-Thessaloniki, the Egnatia Street which connects the west of Greece and Turkey, and at the border crossing point to Bulgaria near Promachon. The seafarer’s unions also announced strike actions for the 20th and 21st January. Ferry traffic could come to a complete standstill. This will have an impact on mail delivery services. Ongoing (issue start date: 11/01/16)

India – Heavy rain and flooding in the state of Tamil Nadu has caused disruption to all mail services in Chennai, Pudcherry and the surrounding areas in India. Delays have been occurring since 30th November and due to the severity of the flooding, it is not yet known how long mail services will be disrupted for. Ongoing (issue start date: 30/11/15)

Indonesia – Delays to mail delivery are expected due to the flooding in the Aceh Province on the island of Sumatra. The areas affected are the districts of Matang Kuli, Tanah Luas, Samudera, Geureudong Pase, Muara Batu, Sawang, Pirak Timu, Lhoksukon, and Nisam. Ongoing (issue start date: 17/01/16)

Japan – Heavy snow falls have caused traffic chaos in Tokyo and northern regions of Japan. Air traffic has also been affected. Delays to mail delivery is to be expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 17/01/16)

Libya – All mail services to Libya are currently suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 16/07/14)

Nepal – An earthquake, approximately 50 miles north west of Kathmandu, has caused severe damage in northern Nepal. Severe disruption to mail services nationwide is to be expected.

UPDATE: All mail services in Nepal have been officially suspended and Kathmandu Airport is now closed to all commercial cargo due to the humanitarian relief effort in the region. Ongoing (issue start date: 27/04/15 – updated 30/04/15)

Netherlands – Since Tuesday 5th January, PostNL have been dealing with extreme weather conditions in the north of the country. Delays to mail delivery is to be expected. Resolved (issue start sate: 06/01/16)

Paraguay – Mail transport and deliveries are facing disruption due to severe flooding in certain areas of the country. Ongoing (issue start sate: 11/01/16)

Somalia – All mail services to Somalia are currently suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 30/11/91)

Turkey – Due to strong winds in Istanbul, 234 arrivals a departures were cancelled across both airports. This may have an impact on mail delivery services. Resolved (issue start sate: 16/01/16)

Ukraine – Delivery of mail for the Crimea and Sevastopol (postal codes 95000 – 99999) regions remains suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 18/03/14)

USA – Due to extreme weather predicted on the east coast of America there have been a number of flight cancellations affecting mail heading into New York. It is expected that  USPS will experience delays for final end delivery in the affected area. Ongoing (issue start date: 22/01/16)

Yemen – All mail services to Yemen have now been suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 27/03/15)
