Service Updates & Upcoming Public Holidays – w/c 8th February

UK Service Updates

London – The late arrival of a vehicle in to the National Distribution Centre last night resulted in it departing late for the London Central Mail Centre. As a result of this, some mail posted in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the EC, N, W1 and WC postcode areas, may arrive later than expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 11/02/16)

Scotland – The aircraft due to fly from Aberdeen-Edinburgh experienced technical issues which resulted in this flight being cancelled last night. Mail was sent on via an alternative service. There will be possible delays to mail delivery in the north of Scotland. Ongoing (issue start date: 11/02/16)

International Service Updates

GENERAL: The situation at Calais and the Channel Tunnel have improved and over the last week transport services have been returning to normal. However, there is a possibility that further strike action and/or security issues may cause further delays going forward. We will advise accordingly if and when new events arise.

Delays are still expected on the crossing from France to UK, which would have a knock on effect on the availability of outward bound transport. There is no end date for this as the situation is continuing indefinitely. Ongoing (issue start date: 23/06/15 – updated 10/12/15)

Australia – A bushfire at Crib Point in the Mornington Peninsula region of Victoria has caused isolated impacts to mail delivery services. Ongoing (issue start date: 19/01/16)

Brazil – There is a customs strike taking place causing a work stoppage of two days. Work is expected to resume on Friday 29th January, however further strikes have been planned. Resolved (issue start date: 20/01/16)

Channel Islands – Due to bad weather in the English channel, there are delays to services to the Channel islands. This will also have an impact on deliveries from the Islands to mainland UK. Ongoing (issue start date: 04/01/16)

China – High volumes of mail arriving in Shanghai and Guangzhou are resulting in backlogs and capacity issues for China Post. Delays to mail services are likely. Resolved (issue start date: 19/01/16)

China, Macau, Taiwan – Due to the lunar new year, mail delivery services in mainland China, Macau & Taiwan will be temporarily disrupted. Ongoing (issue start date: 06/02/2016)

Egypt – Due to the suspension of flights from the UK to Egypt, delays to mail is to be expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 04/11/15)

France – Farmers demonstrations and road blocks in Region West have resulted in heavy traffic and delays in mail pick up and delivery in the area. The worst affected postcode areas are: 22, 29, 35, 53, 56, 14 & 50. Ongoing (issue start date: 28/01/16)

France – Delays are to be expected in the Mouzillon (44330) and St. Astier (24110) distribution centres. This is due to industrial action. Ongoing (issue start date: 01/02/16)

Greece – The Confederation of Greek workers and the Association of Civil Servants have announced a 24-hour strike on Thursday 4th February. These actions will affect both international and domestic mail collection & delivery. Ongoing (issue start date: 04/02/16)

Ireland – Luas tram drivers in Dublin announced a 2-day strike from February 11-11th. Delays to mail delivery services are to be expected. Ongoing (issue start date: 11/02/16)

Libya – All mail services to Libya are currently suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 16/07/14)

Mauritius – Due to heavy rain on the island on Wednesday 10th February, the collection and delivery of mail has been disrupted. Resolved (issue start date: 10/02/16)

Nepal – An earthquake, approximately 50 miles north west of Kathmandu, has caused severe damage in northern Nepal. Severe disruption to mail services nationwide is to be expected.

UPDATE: All mail services in Nepal have been officially suspended and Kathmandu Airport is now closed to all commercial cargo due to the humanitarian relief effort in the region. Ongoing (issue start date: 27/04/15 – updated 30/04/15)

Pakistan – Employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have announced a strike which may result in cancellation of all flights and the blockade of airports around the country. Ongoing (issue start date: 02/02/16)

Paraguay – Mail transport and deliveries are facing disruption due to severe flooding in certain areas of the country. Ongoing (issue start sate: 11/01/16)

Somalia – All mail services to Somalia are currently suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 30/11/91)

Ukraine – Delivery of mail for the Crimea and Sevastopol (postal codes 95000 – 99999) regions remains suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 18/03/14)

USA – Due to extreme weather predicted on the east coast of America there have been a number of flight cancellations affecting mail heading into New York. It is expected that  USPS will experience delays for final end delivery in the affected area. Ongoing (issue start date: 22/01/16)

Yemen – All mail services to Yemen have now been suspended. Ongoing (issue start date: 27/03/15)
